As many of us predicted, the Cleveland Indians have sent RHP Jeanmar Gomez and his 5.18 ERA down to AAA Columbus. They’ve recalled lefty Scott Barnes to take Gomez’s place on the roster.

Barnes, 24, has spent most of the season with the Columbus Clippers, going 0-2 with a 3.73 ERA in 14 games/3 starts (31.1IP, 21H, 13ER, 15BB, 35K, .188AVG, 10.0K/9.0IP).  Out of the bullpen, he has 2.35 ERA in 11 outings (15.0 IP, 9 hits, 4 earned runs, 18 strikeouts).  Triple-A hitters are batting .188 (21-112) off him this year with no home runs allowed in 31.1 innings pitched; right-handed hitters are batting .167 (13-78) off him. Barnes was with Cleveland from May 30-June 14, when he appeared in four games out of the bullpen (10.38 ERA, 4.1 innings pitched, 5 hits, 5 R/ER) and did not allow a hit or a run in 3 of those 4 appearances. After returning to Columbus he made 3 relief appearances (3.00ERA, 3.0IP, 4H, 1R/ER, 3BB, 5K), June 17-23.

Gomez has spent the entire 2012 season to date with Cleveland, going 4-7 with a 5.18 ERA in 14 games/13 starts (73.0 innings pitched, 75 hits, 48R/42ER, 10HR, 26BB, 35K, .265 AVG).
